Is Anything Stronger Than Love?

Dear Bev,

I carry a lot of fears.  You talk in your CDs about ways of releasing fears.  I’m curious, the feeling of love is stronger than fear – is anything stronger than love?

ChoicesWhat a great question!

As I reflect on this I would encourage you all to consider the power of CHOICE, and the conscious role it plays in your life. Many of us spend a great part of our lives stuck in old patterns and styles of thought. These patterns are actually holding us back. Sometimes we are aware of them and sometimes we are not.

Growth is consistently becoming aware of all the aspects of ourselves. We need to feel those aspects, acknowledge them and then actively move into ways  of releasing them. All of this involves pivotal moments of Choice.

How do I use Choice? I can tell when I am stuck because I feel grey or unhappy or worried…there is an aspect of unrest that is showing up. I have taught myself to “Stop Look and Listen” rather than just distract or give in to acting out the distress. This took a lot of willingness and time to really get there. When I was young I would mostly distract. Not now…it is too important to me.

Choice is about feeling what is going on in the body and the mind and then looking towards moving into Choice. For that I play with any of the following…and this is just some of the techniques:

  • I stretch a lot and enjoy yoga. This opens me up to aspects of myself. The more open I am and the more oxygenated I am, the more I can move to higher aspects of who I am.
  • I enjoy continuous writing. It allows me to get in touch with what is going on and what is really important to me.
  • I practice releasing techniques.
  • I love to meditate as that brings in calmness and an awareness that helps with choice.

Grounding is vital. We cannot make wise choices when we are not grounded. To be grounded means we are in our body. When we are not in our body, we are swimming around in our heads and often old stuff surfaces.

Choose an affirmation to say in those moments such as:

  • Every moment has Choice.
  • Choice is the Engine of my Personal Power.

Connecting to the choices we have in each moment can bring us into self-growth in a very powerful way. Slow down and breathe and take a time out. Go into your heart for yourself and others.

What if you live your life from a place of conscious awareness and that became more important than everything else you do?

Choice is a key part of your Mastery. Take this month and play with all the aspects of this message that has meaning for you.

CHOICE!!…it belongs to you. It’s a gift we have been given. Pay attention at all times. Choice is right here in the moment.

Remember that only you have the ability to Choose your awareness—no one else.

Using Pictures Rather Than Words

It is true that a picture in our mind is very powerful. It is more powerful than a paragraph of self-talk. Both the subconscious and the conscious mind respond to a picture, especially if it is encoded with emotions. If you want to increase the part of you that has a desire to live differently, then I encourage you to find images that you can hold in your mind or imagination as a way of reprogramming.

For me, there is power associated with this picture: I see a stick shift gear in my mind (encoded with love for my Dad). It tells me to navigate with alertness and self care both for myself, and those around me. A picture really does say a thousand words.

Reflect on your experiences in life. Find a memory that holds the power of alertness and self-accountability; one of successfully navigating or being engaged in self-care. Allow that picture to be embedded in your mind by imagining it, and feeling the emotion that goes with it. For me it is power and self-accountability. When you feel the feeling that goes with the picture, you embed it in your subconscious and conscious mind. Now you are reprogramming!

Testimonial

Our ability, as parents, to support our children to thrive in stressful situations is becoming more and more important. Children need very specific tools in their self regulation 'tool kits' that they can draw upon to support their success, and trusted adults to coach them in their use. But what are these tools and how to we teach them effectively to our kids?

Thankfully, there is Beverley Pugh! Bev takes a curious and calm approach to supporting children and parents with this journey. She is passionately invested in teaching parents and children ways to reduce anxiety and approach life positively and confidently. Bev is a master of her craft - she draws on years of her own experience as a parent and counsellor to work effectively and respectfully with children and their parents. I have thoroughly enjoyed Bev's recent workshops for parents and children and recommend them to anyone willing to explore specific strategies to help their children thrive at home, at school and in their community.
