Chinese Fortune Cookie
If I take all the commercialization out of Valentine’s Day, except, of course, for the chocolates (I love chocolates), then I shift my focus to the meaning this celebration has for me. It can create a “flavour” for the month.
The flavour for this month is being in our hearts.
For me, that holds the meaning of connection; a connection to myself and others.
My wish for all of us is that we can be in our hearts. Why? Because there is an intelligence in our hearts that surpasses the mind. My mind is great for figuring out how to put Ikea furniture together; to put my mind in charge of my life is scary.
Our mind holds a great deal of ego. It holds our habits of thoughts from old conditioning. The heart holds compassion, forgiveness, love, joy, peace.
Imagine your life from that kind of intelligence! The quality of our relationship with ourselves and with others would be beautiful. I parent from my heart, partner with others from my heart, work from my heart, live from my heart. I feel creative, peaceful, calm and intelligent.
There are so many ways to drop into our hearts. This has now become a habit for me. A habit I like and cultivate. One of my favourite ways is to imagine my two mischievous dogs in front of my heart. They are sitting side by side – they look a little like Abbott & Costello – and they are cocking their heads looking very curious. Oh! I can feel my heart open. It has a feeling of warmth. From that place, I can be present with myself and others in a heart-felt way. Being in our hearts mean that we are present in the moment.
Give special meaning to this month.
What you focus on expands.
