Tasting vs. Talking

“All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.” ~ A Christmas Carol

Have you ever tried to taste a word? A very wise monk in Japan said that at this time of year we hear and say so many beautiful words… joy, love, appreciation, and more. His message to me was “don’t talk them, but instead taste them”. I have always remembered this sage advice. If you taste them, your whole being reverberates with the true essence of these words. When we taste them, rather than say them, our vitality, health and happiness reflects the true depth and power of these words. This is good!!

This is my experience. Let’s take the word joy. As I say “joy”, I focus on the sensation of it rolling off my tongue, and visualize myself actually tasting the word as it comes out of my mouth. I found as I focus on tasting it rather than saying it, I can feel sensations go through my entire body. It’s like my heart pops open and I feel really good!

I feel we can bring a whole different meaning and sensation inside of us when we taste words that hold a lot of power and love. It really helps with our creativity and wisdom quotient! Give it a try.

This is such a powerful season. I know there are many of us who are missing loved ones. It is a very sentimental season. For all of us, this season is a heart opener as we all hold those we love close to our hearts.

Remember that when our hearts are open, we have the opportunity to grow inside and retrain our monkey minds. This is everywhere in literature. We don’t grow from negativity or worry, we grow from imprinting the good thoughts and feelings we want inside of us.

How do we imprint? By having an open heart, and coming from a feeling of openness to love and appreciation.

This is a great season to imprint more openness and loving ways of being in life. Taste the lights, music, and spirit of this season. The more lightness we imprint, the more our creativity and smartness increases. We build beautiful sense memories inside of us. We want to bump out any old sense memories that don’t support us.

Great loving memories strengthen our immune system and our health and happiness quotient! I truly believe our health quotient goes up the happier we are.

So let’s all strengthen our immune system through “tasting” and “feeling” the depth of words that open our hearts.
Happy Holidays Everyone!

No One Teaches Us This!

“Did you know our bodies ‘open’ or ‘close’ depending on what we are thinking and feeling?” ~ Bev Pugh

There are so many ways to move forward in life and create what is really important to us. This month we have Thanksgiving and I’m reminded of a really important learning I experienced. I would like to share it with you.

Gratitude is a much used word and can feel overused. It can be described as good manners, polite and the ‘right’ thing to do and feel. However, there is a whole other level to gratitude – which opens and closes our bodies.

This is what we know both scientifically as well as psychologically. In the area of building vitality and personal power, it is the actual vibration of the word or the effect that it has on us and our bodies that is so important, not the word itself. The effect it has on our body is determined by how open our hearts are when we say it. Our vitality and wisdom can go up or down depending on how we are connected to the words we use. The key here is to notice if we really feel the words we use or do we simply routine them.

What we know is that certain emotions and words like resentment, guilt, shame, judgement, jealousy, or fear create tightness and restrictions in our bodies. We have all experienced muscle tightness. In addition, these states can affect our vitality and mood. Our heart closes to protect us from us. (I am talking about the energy of the heart, not the biological heart)

Other feeling states and words like love, joy, gratitude, understanding, and compassion can relax our muscles and create an open body where energy can flow and we can feel our vitality. Our hearts open.

I am very aware of when my heart is open and when it is closed. I have taught myself this awareness. We all have the ability to open and close our hearts and bodies, but no one teaches us this important information. So I learned through my experience and commitment of understanding who I am on ‘all’ levels. Now it is well documented in the literature. Think of our hearts as a car. All of us are 8 cylinders and most of us are functioning on 2. (I know little about cars, so I hope that analogy works!)

If we say something like “thank you” or “I am so grateful for…”and we consciously say it, feel it, mean it, and are present with it, our bodies actually open up and more energy can flow through us. It is actually the energy of the heart that opens up. Our vitality goes up, and so does our mood and perspective. This is very powerful stuff. Once we really understand, it is incredibly powerful for vitality and perspective and all the things we want for ourselves.

There is a big difference for our wellness when we consciously select and feel and not come from a routine place of good manners. I was taught that “thank you” or “I appreciate” were the right thing to say. And they are. However, once I began to work and understand all the nuances of language, and how that affects our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, I became interested in a whole different way.

When we authentically say and feel a thank you to someone and it’s not an automatic response, but a selected response, the following changes happen for us:

  • Our breathing can change and that opens us up
  • Our hearts open and warmth is there
  • Our compassion and understanding quotients for ourselves and others go up
  • Our depth of wisdom becomes more available to us

These are only some of the changes, but look at the scope of mastery that is here for us. We have a great deal more mastery capacity than what we are using.

Happy Thanksgiving, and this month watch the changes in your body and energy as you select and feel what you mean, rather than routining it or taking it for granted.

Mastery Practice Tool

Breath Exercise

This is both a calming and a cleansing breath. You can use this in times of distress. Find a quiet moment and give yourself two minutes of de-stressing. Gently close your eyes and focus on your belly. Breathe into your belly and allow your belly to expand. Invite air to float up into your ribs and feel your ribs expand and open up. Then bring the air into your higher chest. Hold for a count of four. Then begin to exhale and feel your chest releasing, your ribs releasing, and gently bring your belly in. Just as you are almost complete in your exhalation, open your mouth and exhale through your mouth any leftover stagnant energy. Hold for a count of four. Continue to do this for 7 cycles. You will be amazed at how much fresher you feel.

Testimonial

Our ability, as parents, to support our children to thrive in stressful situations is becoming more and more important. Children need very specific tools in their self regulation 'tool kits' that they can draw upon to support their success, and trusted adults to coach them in their use. But what are these tools and how to we teach them effectively to our kids?

Thankfully, there is Beverley Pugh! Bev takes a curious and calm approach to supporting children and parents with this journey. She is passionately invested in teaching parents and children ways to reduce anxiety and approach life positively and confidently. Bev is a master of her craft - she draws on years of her own experience as a parent and counsellor to work effectively and respectfully with children and their parents. I have thoroughly enjoyed Bev's recent workshops for parents and children and recommend them to anyone willing to explore specific strategies to help their children thrive at home, at school and in their community.
