The Eagle by Emma

eagle soaring

I am an Eagle soaring

High above the beautiful Earth

The strength of the Universe surrounds me

As I glide through the air.

I am awake and so alive,

My eyes are alert and wide open,

My heart is filled with love.

My strong wings are spread,

I feel light and free.

The air supports and guides me

As I glide effortlessly through the air.

With a mere twitch and flick of wing tips

I change direction and rise up

Efficient and focussed,

Gaining perspective and distance on the ground below.

The world unfolds beneath me.

I see things happen

I feel compassion but I don’t react.

Staying on course I soar through the air.

Using the forces of the Universe,

The energy of the wind, the light of the Sun

To guide me

I trust that my patience and wisdom

Will lead me in the right direction.

During my journey

I will see beauty that I never imagined,

Expansive, infinite possibilities surround me.

I am an Eagle soaring.

What is most important……..What we tell ourselves

AcceptanceThose are the words of Carlee, who lives just outside of Seattle.  She had a unique transformative experience and wants very much to share her learning in hopes that it might help others who really desire to change, but are struggling with moving forward.  Here is her story.

Carlee was experiencing depression, not enough to interfere greatly with her job performance or her ability to have a relationship, but intense enough that she would have very difficult days.  She experienced the frustration of seeming inability to change, followed by weight gain, which further increased her depression.

One evening she was sitting in the front row of a yoga class, when a part of her inner self emerged.  We don’t really know the gender, but will use “he” for reference.   He told her he was her inner bully and began sobbing as he apologized for all the things he had said to her, for all the degrading emotions he had created in her, for all the negative thoughts he had brought forth to make her feel so regretful about herself and the things she had done.  Carlee quietly cried with him as she experienced the heartfelt remorse of this inner being who had come of his own accord to speak with her and say how truly sorry he was.

In the next two months, Carlee lost her physical burden.  The weight seemed to literally fall off day after day. The emotional burdens became lighter. She no longer had those very difficult days.

Carlee’s inner self came unbidden, but she had been working to move forward.  She had discovered the importance of feeling the warmth of the Vancouver sun.  She had gotten to know how her brain works and was both thankful for its quirkiness and thankful to know how to manage it.  She saw the curiosity of space in a bookshelf and the wonder of watching the sand in a 3-minute hourglass during the most stressful part of her day.  She learned to stop.  She learned balance.   She learned to plan wonderful events in the future so when it gets dark and cold she would have some exciting times to think about.

Then her inner self appeared. And that was that.

Folks ask Carlee how she made her changes seemingly so “quickly” and “easily”. She has the following answer for all of us who are stuck while desperately trying to change.  Here it is.

Acceptance.     Forgiveness.    Awareness.    Patience.

And as Carlee says, “The rest is just math.”

Thanks Carlee.

Where are you shining your Internal Flashlight?

Imagine that you have an internal flashlight, and you get to shine it on whatever you want. You can shine it on the past, the present, or the future. You can shine it on everything that is bad, or you can shine it on what is good. Or you can do both. Shine it on what is here right now in the present. As you do this say to yourself in this moment right now, I see…, I hear…, I touch…, I taste…, I smell… Breathe after each and notice it. Let your body feel it. Focus on what you appreciate in the moment. For example, say it is a beautiful comfortable chair that is supporting you. Nothing is too small. This is not about looking for the big things. Notice without judgement. The mind notices and becomes your partner in this beautiful exercise. Your heart opens to what you are noticing in the present. Your consciousness changes.

Bev's Laughing and Breathing Belly Workshop for Children was one of the best I have attended. She has a gifted ability to gently connect with children and teach and share with them her techniques of belly breathing, rooting, mind vacations and laughter. These techniques soothe and calm them whenever they feel overwhelmed or anxious - be at school, home or before bed time. Whether you have an overwhelmed pre-schooler or a test-anxious pre-teen, Bev's approach works! I love that she gave parents the tools to model and share these fundamentals of meditation with their children. I would encourage families to take her course...your children will thank you and you will benefit from ways to keep yourself calm and allow wisdom in.
