Long Live Imagination

“Keeping an open mind and an open heart to those teachable moments all around us…this is how we build consistency.”  – Beverley Pugh

the beauty of natureSpring has sprung! It is time for Renewal. Let’s talk about your renewal!!

Reflect on the choices you have been making over the past months. In self-growth there are three experiences: Expansion, Contraction, and Stagnation.

I often ask myself “Bev, how are you doing?”

I aspire to listen without judgement and with the intention of moving forward.

Here is a lovely meditation or mindfulness exercise. I love it because to grow we want to FEEL the experience of growth in our bodies. That is where change happens.

I walked slowly through the trees in the mountains. I invited all my senses to experience this walk. I saw the trees, I felt the wind on my face, I felt the softness of the moss and I smelled the freshness of the air. It felt so clean. I heard the birds overhead.

As each part of nature this very significant question:

WHAT CAN YOU TEACH ME?

Here is what I saw and felt. Language came to me when I asked that very important question.

  • Trees—Strength
  • Running Water—Movement
  • Moss—Gentleness
  • A Burned Out Log—Balance
  • A Far Away Biker—More Than What is in Front of Me
  • Logs Laying on Logs—Asking for Support
  • Tree Roots—Send My Energy Down Into the Earth and Ground
  • Still Water—Stagnancy is No Fun and Unhealthy
  • Sky—Hope
  • A Fork in the Trail—Choice
  • And there were more. Each piece of language has special meaning to me, and now that it is attached to a visual it goes deeper into my being

As I write to you this is the one that is dancing with me right now.

A Fork in the Trail – Which way do I go? To the right takes me to the unknown and all of the possibilities and uncertainties. To the left loops me back and I can do the trail again…..kind of like repetitive patterns. Interestingly I had a physical reaction…my body immediately said “Oh no you don’t…I don’t want to keep doing the same trail over and over again – an interesting metaphor.

Imagery and the physical sensations they create, take us deeper into our own conviction to support self-growth

Enjoy your renewal!!

Homework

Play with feeling the visceral effects of imagery, and listen to the language that has meaning to you. This will give you clues as to how to go deeper into change

Happy Expectancy

“Happy expectancy of possibility opens our hearts.”

Beverley Pugh

Spring FlowersI love the phrase “happy expectancy”.  It’s uplifting, it’s hopeful, it’s “anything is possible”, it’s energizing.  Spring for me is light and warmth and renewal and the essence of “happy expectancy”.

There are times when I catch my mind focussing on what’s wrong or what could go wrong.  I have learned to choose differently.  My ‘little mind’ wants to focus on lack and I invite my ‘big mind’ to focus on the unlimited possibilities of each moment.

I have always carried happy expectancy with my children.  It’s been one of my greatest parenting strengths.  That doesn’t mean I haven’t been real about what’s happening, but I have aspired to hold the energy of happy expectancy as a parent.

And then I do it for myself.  When my mind wanders to “lack” of something, I kindly bring it to happy expectancy.

What is happy expectancy?  It’s being in my heart, knowing that good things are possible and that’s where I choose to be.  It brings out the best in me and it brings out the best in my family.

Happy expectancy is different from expectations.  Expectations are more about “shoulds” – how something should look.  We often carry a lot of emotional attachment to how something should look and that can cloud the present moment.

One of my greatest learnings is to shift from expectations to happy expectancy. That doesn’t mean I don’t have expectations of others and myself. I watch the emotional attachment I have to them. I watch the meaning I give expectations. Happy expectancy opens our hearts to all the good things that are available now in this moment and in the future. For me, it usually starts with a big “letting go” breath or sigh. My breath deepens and then I choose my focus of happy expectancy. I know when I’ve got it because I can feel sensations in my body.

Spring is a wonderful season of renewal and growth. You hold the capacity of Spring. I invite you to play with happy expectancy.

Mastery Practice Tool

Each night, take 5 minutes before you go to bed, close your eyes, go into your heart, and go over your day from the present moment to the beginning of the day. Look for moments when you can feel gratitude for an occurrence or a feeling. There may be something in your day that you took for granted or you missed. This exercise allows you to be in full awareness of the good things that are happening in your life. I would recommend that you do it regularly for one month and then decide if you want to continue.

Testimonial

Bev's Laughing and Breathing Belly Workshop for Children was one of the best I have attended. She has a gifted ability to gently connect with children and teach and share with them her techniques of belly breathing, rooting, mind vacations and laughter. These techniques soothe and calm them whenever they feel overwhelmed or anxious - be at school, home or before bed time. Whether you have an overwhelmed pre-schooler or a test-anxious pre-teen, Bev's approach works! I love that she gave parents the tools to model and share these fundamentals of meditation with their children. I would encourage families to take her course...your children will thank you and you will benefit from ways to keep yourself calm and allow wisdom in.
