HOLDING POWER

happy 2013For those of you who are earnest about self-growth, the development of HOLDING POWER is essential.

What do I mean by holding power? It’s your ability to stay consistent with your growth in the face of the external world and all its challenges.

If you collapse into old ways, look at what meaning you are still giving a situation. For example, if you want to be brave in a certain situation. but you hide instead (whatever hiding looks like for you) then you are still giving a meaning to a thought that is old and limiting to you.

HOLDING POWER involves the following:

  • Being aware of a belief
  • Being present in the moment so you know what is happening
  • Having ways of calming yourself if you feel stressed so you can choose differently
  • Knowing how to challenge and change your relationship  with an old style of thinking
  • Step by step building a momentum of consistency

Each one of these stages is important for you to know about and have strategies to move forward.

As I move into 2013, I am focusing on “HOLDING POWER” for you.

Enjoy playing with the different aspects of this theme.

Consistency of practice is key.

This year the newsletter will be a combination of written and video.

You can all make a New Year’s Resolution or have a Wish list of what you would like to create, but the bottom line is being clear about whether or not you sincerely want to change, and then building strategies of HOLDING POWER.

May this be a year of meaningful growth and an increasing mastery of health and happiness.

Best Wishes

Bev

I did it!! by Holly

Holly in AustraliaI took a gap year from university and decided to travel. I asked friends to come with me, but no one was able to so I went to Australia by myself. I landed in Sydney, made my way to Melbourne and I looked for a job. I had decided to do a combination of working and backpacking. I am 22 years old. This was my second time travelling like this without my family. I found a job packing fruit outside of Melbourne on a farm and did that for 3 months. Exhausting! I met great people. I made $6000 and then I travelled for 6 months. I backpacked everywhere and found out I’m really good at budgeting. When money got low I stopped in Darwin and worked as a waitress for 6 weeks. They trained me which was great. Then I travelled more. I met wonderful people and they have become wonderful friends.

I thought I was going alone, but I was never alone. Making decisions in the past has been hard for me. I had to make a lot of decisions.

Bev talks about building muscle – well that’s what I did. I felt anxious, but I walked through it.

I did it!!!

Mastery Practice Tool

Gold Thread Exercise

The more open our hearts, the more expanded we are and that fosters greater health, vitality and happiness. There are so many aspects to every moment, and so many aspects to ourselves. We have been given the gift of focus and choice. These two gifts deeply affect our perceptions and experiences in each moment. Invite yourself today to look for the gold thread in each moment...something that you appreciate and are moved by seeing, or hearing, or feeling it. Let the part of you that notices lead you on this exercise. This is one of most important gifts we can give ourselves. It is a beautiful Christmas gift for us and those around us. Enjoy!

Testimonial

Our ability, as parents, to support our children to thrive in stressful situations is becoming more and more important. Children need very specific tools in their self regulation 'tool kits' that they can draw upon to support their success, and trusted adults to coach them in their use. But what are these tools and how to we teach them effectively to our kids?

Thankfully, there is Beverley Pugh! Bev takes a curious and calm approach to supporting children and parents with this journey. She is passionately invested in teaching parents and children ways to reduce anxiety and approach life positively and confidently. Bev is a master of her craft - she draws on years of her own experience as a parent and counsellor to work effectively and respectfully with children and their parents. I have thoroughly enjoyed Bev's recent workshops for parents and children and recommend them to anyone willing to explore specific strategies to help their children thrive at home, at school and in their community.
