“Ready, willing, and able to find out how powerful we really are.” ~ Bev Pugh
There are moments in life when you know you are witnessing and experiencing something inspirational. A few weekends ago I went to an international tennis tournament for wheelchair athletes held at Kitsilano Beach. My eldest daughter has been volunteering every Sunday for a year now as an assistant coach. I have driven out to Steveston to watch their practices, and then had the amazing opportunity to go to this international event for players from all around the world. This event is held every year in July and is open to the public. I had emailed some of you with children because they were looking for ball boys/girls under the age of eighteen. I thought it would be an incredibly inspiring experience. I would highly recommend it next year.
What did I find inspiring about it? Anything is possible! These men and women have chosen to dig really deep, and move beyond perceived limitations. Isn’t that what life is all about for all of us? How else do we get to our dreams? Life will throw you curveballs, yet to watch these wheelchair athletes gave me an amazing surge of inner strength and power. We are capable of so much. It is indeed our mind that limits us.
If you keep a “wide-angle lens” on what is possible, we can find out how powerful we really are. For me, these wheelchair athletes are fabulous role models for all of us. When I think of the number of times I have whined because I can’t get what I want, or because it is hard to change my thought patterns, I feel invigorated to begin to muster up the energy to approach self-growth from a much deeper place.
I have asked my husband, Roger, to write about his experience at the tournament. Roger has been, and still is, a tennis professional and coach. He has played all over the world, and loves tennis with a great passion.
Inspirational experiences can empower all of us. What has taught you how powerful you are? Are you using that attitude now to create something that is really important to you?
Go forth and dig deep!
