I am a father of four. I earn a good living, and can offer my kids whatever they want. I was beginning to get concerned about attitude in two of my children. I had never been to counselling before, but I referred myself. It was a humbling experience for me.
Bev just read this newsletter to me over the phone, and I smiled at all the memories it brought back. I did both strategies. My kids were used to travelling first class all the time. I didn’t tell them I went to counselling. I just began to describe everything as an adventure. That was it!!!
I took our kids camping and they loved it! Lots of grumbling at the beginning, but by the end of the holiday they were 100% in. My wife is not a camper and she opted out. It was actually okay…I bonded with the kids, and she had a break.
I came up with a strategy for budget travelling. Three quarters of the trip was budget and the rest was first class. It worked well. Everyone liked that.
As feedback, I loved both strategies. They are practical and suit me.
Now one of my kids is travelling on their own, and knows how to budget everything. It’s a big boost to their self-esteem. It does pay to think these things through.
