Laughter – The Best Part Of Life!

August 8th, 2012

“You are just a few laughs away from letting a whole lot of good stuff in.” Abraham-Hicks

AlligatorsLaughter is a wonderful, wonderful part of life. August is a great month to re-connect with that healthy friend of ours called “laughter”.

I have a friend who has one of those great, contagious laughs; what a teacher she is. When I think of her, I smile and often a big belly laugh is involved.

When we frown we actually produce stress hormones. When we smile, we actually produce happiness chemicals. So, serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin – all this good stuff is available to us through laughter. Our physiology changes and we feel good. How great is that?!

In the summer, there are so many fun available moments for laughter and I encourage you to really go for it – consciously and with delight. It’s better than taking vitamins!

Laughter is cleansing. It cleans out built-up toxicity. It cleans out our systems.

Sometimes we use laughter to distract or avoid an emotional moment which can create a disconnect between us and the other person. That’s not the laughter I’m talking about. The laughter I am referring to creates a wonderful connection in our own relationship with ourselves and others because it is authentic to the moment.

I love the laughter of small children – they know the ‘joy’ in the word enjoyment.

Laugh and enjoy your August and take it with you throughout the year.

Testimonial

Our ability, as parents, to support our children to thrive in stressful situations is becoming more and more important. Children need very specific tools in their self regulation 'tool kits' that they can draw upon to support their success, and trusted adults to coach them in their use. But what are these tools and how to we teach them effectively to our kids?

Thankfully, there is Beverley Pugh! Bev takes a curious and calm approach to supporting children and parents with this journey. She is passionately invested in teaching parents and children ways to reduce anxiety and approach life positively and confidently. Bev is a master of her craft - she draws on years of her own experience as a parent and counsellor to work effectively and respectfully with children and their parents. I have thoroughly enjoyed Bev's recent workshops for parents and children and recommend them to anyone willing to explore specific strategies to help their children thrive at home, at school and in their community.
